The Reception

Here it is the final installment of my wedding posts. I must say I am struggling to write about it. It isn’t that I didn’t have a fun; I had an amazing time. Nothing went really wrong, the food was great, and the speeches made were heartfelt and hilarious. What makes me pause in my writing is the fact that I was so busy the entire night! I nearly wore out my shoes running around greeting as many people as I could, and trying to talk to everyone was impossible. Hell I even tried to take some photos which was almost impossible. Luckily I was able to snap a few for your viewing pleasure.

Executive Class

The following photos start with my executive class flight to Winnipeg (I was upgraded; thanks Mark!)  Then there is a commemorative snap from when I showed Cee and Mila the Marine Museum in my hometown, Selkirk, Manitoba. (Mila is from the east coast and couldn’t understand how there could be a Marine Museum in the Prairies.) The series ends with shots from our rehearsal dinner.

The wedding day.

Here is the first half of what everyone has been waiting for… The photos from my wedding. This series starts before the ceremony when we took a little break from photos in the Exchange District. The indoor photos were taken at the Millennium Centere before the reception. I really want to thank Coralee of Red Photo Co. for doing an amazing job on our wedding photos.

The maid of honour, Rachel.

Happiness is a warm gun.

The day before the wedding my best man, Conor, and one of my groomsmen, Mike, decided to tempt fate by taking me shooting. Mike is a self-professed gun nut. He owns a total of 14 guns. At one time, he had a gun that he couldn’t take out of the house without alerting the police. For logistical reasons he sold it and bought three more guns with the profits.

Before this adventure, I had only once fired a gun, and that was at a shooting range. Conor, Mike and I were shooting at cans in an abandoned gravel pit. In spite of my poor aim, I had a lot of fun. I was able to hit two cans with a .22 and it was fun obliterating clay disks with a 12-gauge. Firing the M-14 was a rush; it nearly took my arm off.

A valuable lesson regarding dough.

Anyone who has met me knows that I love to eat. What some of you probably don’t know is that I also enjoy cooking. It is only a recent hobby of mine so who knows, it might not last. But until the novelty of my own confections wears off, I’m going to post picturs of the results. My most recent culinary adventure was the making of a Zucchini and Ricotta Gallette. You can find the recipe at the Smitten Kitchen (I highly recommend that you check it out).

In spite of my best efforts to ruin it, the galette turned out. My best efforts amounted to  an extra 1/4 cup of water to the dough, I am ashamed to admit that I didn’t even figure out the problem- Colleen did.

Most of my problems were dough-related. Everything else came together nicely. Although if I had found a wrong way to slice zucchinis, mix cheese, and add garlic to olive oil, I think the next step might have been to sell all of my cookware.

Like I said, I mixed and chopped everything while my dough was setting in the fridge. I rolled it out, mixed the cheese and even took the time to arrange the beautiful yellow and green zucchini in concentric circles. It was ready! All I needed to do was get it in the oven… That’s when I discovered the flaw in my plan. Getting the galette from the counter to the oven!

When I rolled out the dough, I neglected to put anything underneath it. So I had to take off all the zucchini in order to lift it without ruining it. Thankfully Cee was on hand to help me out with that very delicate task. It was dicey, but in the end it turned out perfectly.

The following photos are some promo shots I did for the website The Tee and Cee Show. We had a lot of fun walking around Stanley Park looking for good locations… I might be a bit biased; Cee is my fiancee, and Tee is one of our best friends. But they’re a lot of fun, and their blog is definitely worth checking out.

Holy crap it’s been a while!

Like I said, it’s been a while!  Sorry about all of the time off I have taken recently. I have been busy studying for my Canadian Securities Course, which, thankfully, I passed. Consequently I don’t really have any recent photos to post. I do, however, have some photos of a couple of protests that I attended this year, and I figured that since the G20 just happened, it makes sense to post photos of the anti-Olympic demonstrations here in Vancouver. While it didn’t reach the same level of violence as the black bloc protests at the G20, there was a lot of vandalism.

A photo of me taking these pictures was published in the Vancouver Metro in February 2010.
